This road don’t look like mine.
It’s no longer covered in trees.
The sun seems so bright and the stars are out at night.
Visible far as the eye can see.
A storm turned my home into a treehouse.
Chainsaws set the neighbors free.
A hole above the bed, in the roof over our head.
They didn’t give a dime to me.
Packed up what’s left of our belongings.
Drove to an unfamiliar town.
To a house with hardwood floors and jobs to pay the landlords.
And neighbors that didn’t make a sound.

I’m still searching for a place to settle down and call my own.

I knew it from the start, this wasn’t where I would stay.
I didn’t unpack boxes, just stacked ‘em in the closet.
And waited for the day.
When I filed the paperwork to leave
And go back to my old name.
Now it’s time to move again, but I can’t pay the rent.
So I found myself a roommate.
But then I lost my job, like many of my friends.
So I had to return, to a place I once called home.
And start over again.
