lyrics

[VERSE 1]
This road don’t look like mine.
It’s no longer covered in trees.
The sun seems so bright and the stars are out at night.
Visible far as the eye can see.
A storm turned my home into a treehouse.
Chainsaws set the neighbors free.
A hole above the bed, in the roof over our head.
They didn’t give a dime to me.
Packed up what’s left of our belongings.
Drove to an unfamiliar town.
To a house with hardwood floors and jobs to pay the landlords.
And neighbors that didn’t make a sound.
[CHORUS]
This house is only temporary.
Next one probably is, too.
Don’t even bother hanging photos on the wall.
Who knows the next time you’ll have to move.
And go home… Go home…
I’m still searching for a place to settle down and call my own.
[VERSE 2]
I knew it from the start, this wasn’t where I would stay.
I didn’t unpack boxes, just stacked ‘em in the closet.
And waited for the day.
When I filed the paperwork to leave
And go back to my old name.
Now it’s time to move again, but I can’t pay the rent.
So I found myself a roommate.
But then I lost my job, like many of my friends.
So I had to return, to a place I once called home.
And start over again.
[CHORUS]
This house is only temporary.
Next one probably is, too.
Don’t even bother hanging photos on the wall.
Who knows the next time you’ll have to move.
And go home… Go home…
I’m still searching for a place to settle down and call my own.
[VERSE 3]
This old house has some damage,
But it has character, I’ll admit.
I spent a year alone in a place that’s not my own.
And worked two jobs to pay the rent.
I’d walk down to my dock That sits along the bayou.
Try to find some solace in the never ending silence.
And do my best to make it through.
And then I got a cat. Moved my partner in, too.
Now this house is full of life, and it starting to feel right.
I know this much is true.
[CHORUS 2]
This house is only temporary.
Next one probably is, too.
But I hung our photos on the wall
So I could sit back and look at you.
In our home. Our home.
We found a place where could finally settle down and call our own.
